Editorial on Neurodiversity

On Day 5, the editorial team was asked to create a piece on neurodiversity and accessibility. We were particularly influenced by the talk Autism, Justice & Design — An Intersectional Approach by Sybille Bauer-Zierfuß. During the lecture, she introduced the term epistemic humility, which in this context meant acknowledging that one should not pretend to understand autism when, in reality, one does not. After the talk, we knew more than before, yet still not enough to confidently produce an informed zine. As a response, we designed a poster stating: “We don’t know enough about autism to make a zine about it. Sorry.” We also compiled our notes from the talk onto a long roll of paper, punctuated at irregular intervals with the phrase “Work in Progress.” This served as a reminder that, although we do not yet know enough to create a fully developed zine, we are committed to continuing the work of learning. The editorial was created by Johanna Heller, Blanka Mocová, Timm Felder, and Jeremy Traun. Our sincere thanks go to the Potato Publishing team for making this project possible.
