Project Description

This interactive workshop invites participants to experience accessibility first-hand. Through a combination of demonstrations of assistive technologies, guided exercises and reflection, you will explore how people with visual impairments navigate digital interfaces. By completing real-world tasks in a simulated environment, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the potential barriers and learn how thoughtful design and coding can eliminate them. The session aims to foster empathy through experience, and to provide a starting point to create more inclusive digital products.

Daniela Kubesch

Artist Bio

Daniela Kubesch(AT) (she/her) is an accessibility engineer who is passionate about creating inclusive, human-centred digital experiences. Her work combines user research, UX design, web development, accessibility testing and consultancy. She strongly believes in equality and inclusion and is committed to making digital services accessible. Daniela holds master‘s degrees in Web Engineering and Digital Service Innovation. While at university, she co-founded a11yphant, an open source platform that teaches web developers the basics of web accessibility through interactive coding challenges and quizzes. By sharing her knowledge as a guest on podcasts, on social media and on global conference stages, Daniela is empowering others to build digital experiences with empathy and inclusion in mind.

Artist Bio

Pawel Masarczyk(PL)(he/him), is an Accessibility and Experience Expert at WIENFLUSS.  Thanks to his lived experience of blindness he honed a passion for making digital spaces more habitable for himself and his fellow humans. Through self-advocacy practised since his teens and activity as a host of podcasts on the topic of blindness and technology he spreads knowledge about the impact of technology on the lives of those who often are excluded from social participation. He sees every opportunity given as a leverage to champion digital inclusion which lead him to becoming the subject matter expert at the European Commission and advocate for accessibility within the community of free radio in the German-speaking countries.
