Access to digital products and experiences is essential for social inclusion and equal opportunities. Yet many people still face accessibility issues that prevent them from accessing information, services and communities.
In response to d*sign week's central question, 'For who(m) is the making?', this talk illustrates how everyday design and development choices can unintentionally hinder access. Providing an introduction to the fundamentals of digital accessibility, it covers the various types of impairments, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), as well as inclusive language and accessible user research. Attendees can discover how small adjustments have a significant impact, serving as a starting point to integrating accessibility into every stage of the design and development process.
