Sunday 30th November 17:00: Editorial Reveal </br>

==== Project Description ====
inter*printer refers to the in-between state that connects analog and digital publishing processes, as well as the the connection and interpersonal networking between individuals and collectives.

During d*sign week, the inter*printer is a collaborative process involving collecting, documenting, visualizing, curating, translating, publishing, reflecting, analyzing, learning, discussing, experimenting.

Taking place throughout the d*sign week, inter*printer functions as a collective action of experiencing the programme, actively involving the participants of the festival in documenting what happens in each event. Everyone is invited to contribute creatively with notes, scribbles, photos and texts that can be placed in shared folders and physical boxes. Special tools and concepts for documentation will also be made available to visitors of the d*sign week.

The collection is then processed in a daily editorial routine lead by Collectors Collective, a group of students of the Department of Visual Communication from the University of Arts Linz. At the studio of Potato Publishing the Collectors Collective edits and publishes the notes, drawings, photos and texts from the day before in the form of prints and publications. These visualize discussions, workshops and ideas, and explore new connections across the festival programme. After each session the content will be digitalized and feed back to the d*signwiki as a digital archive.

===== Who can participate? =====
Visitors of the dsign week are warmly invited to share their impressions and notes and make them available to the editorial process.

===== How to submit? =====
Via upload to: https://cloud.servus.at/s/4FXKW9SQRDr97yL or in person at the event.
19:00 ‑ 20:00 </br>

==== Project Description ====

</onlyinclude>
"small web / small print" presents publications that touch on the topics the d*sign week tries to raise. They do so by means of their content as well as their method of production. The publications on display were selected from the open zine library of Potato Publishing or provided by participating artists of the d*sign week.
</br>
</br>
''Accessible for whom?''
Selfpublishing is a form of self-empowerment and a strategy to create access to the public on ones own terms. Zines have been an approachable medium for independent creators and activists since the beginnings of desktop publishing. They are relatively cheap and easy to produce. This affordability makes them ideal to spread artistic-visions, activist communications and personal experiences within communities. Yet, how can this accessibility for creators be translated to an outcome that isn't excluding readers based on their abilities?
</br>
</br>
''small web / small print''
With blogs and social-media came a lower necessity for distributing folded paper. The development towards centralized platform monopolies led to frustrations and a search for alternative ways of publishing. Networks of personal websites - often called "small web" - are one of those. Other approaches like HTML-to-print, Web-to-print or Wiki-to-print try to combine web- and paper-based publishing. Their workflow can initially feel intimidating compared to using pens and a copy machine. But they lower the barriers inherent to print, as publications can be accessed both digitally and analogue.
"small web / small print" presents publications that touch on the topics the d*sign week tries to raise. They do so by means of their content as well as their method of production.
</br>
</br>
''Accessible for whom?''
Selfpublishing is understood by it's proponents as a form of self-empowerment and a strategy to create access to the public on ones own terms. Zines have been an approachable medium for independent creators and activists since the beginnings of desktop publishing. They are relatively cheap and easy to produce in quantities that are too small for mass-distributions, but large enough to spread artistic-visions, activist communications and personal experiences of marginalized groups within their subcultural communities. Yet, how can this accessibility for creators be translated to an outcome that isn't excluding readers based on their abilities?
</br>
</br>
''small web / small print''
With blogs and social-media came a lower necessity for distributing folded paper. But the development towards centralized platform monopolies driven by commercial interests reignited demand for sovereign alternatives and spurred a revival of networks of personal websites, coined "small web". Approaches like HTML-to-print, Web-to-print or Wiki-to-print try to step further and combine web- and paper-based publishing, creating an open field for artistic exploration. Their workflow can initially feel intimidating compared to using pens and a copy machine. But they might offer an appealing solution to the inherent barriers of printed matter, as they can be accessed both digitally and analogue.
The 2025 edition of the '''d*sign week''' is organized around the question “For who(m) is the making?”, which sets the attention on who is involved in the design process, as a designer or as an addressee, and how design connects the needs and everyday life of both. A fundamental element of any production requires understanding of the person that is being designed for and awareness on what they necessitate. Likewise, also the context and the practice of the designer have strong influence on the outcome. Even the material and tools play a role in that. As a discursive practice, design interacts with all of this, while following aesthetic and artistic intentions. If “contemporary design” is often experienced as excluding and exclusive, how can we make it more accessible? How do we balance the need for accessibility to the ever evolving language of visual communication?

<!--T:4-->
== Structure ==
Structured as a week-long series of workshops, lectures and conversations, the d*sign week investigates how access, participation and inclusion can be values that guide independent design practices. How can they become a common goal in non-commercial and socially-oriented projects?

<!--T:5-->
== Aims ==
The event wants to be a space for exchange for designers, coders and artists. The programme however tries to open itself up and be accessible for a broader audience. This happens through note-taking and editing, as well as translating in other languages and contexts. The exploration of approaches and tools is the ground for collective learning, reflection in action and knowledge exchange during the festival.

<!--T:6-->
Living in times that require novel forms of being together, the d*sign week proposes asking ourselves “For who(m) is the making?” as method to radically open the design flow. This creates spaces for new perspectives, alliances and networks of solidarity.

<!--T:3-->

<!--T:4-->
Structured as a week-long series of workshops, lectures and conversations, the d*sign week investigates how access, participation and inclusion can be values that guide independent design practices. How can they become a common goal in non-commercial and socially-oriented projects?

<!--T:5-->

<!--T:6-->
Living in times that require novel forms of being together, the d*sign week proposes asking ourselves “For who(m) is the making?” as method to radically open the design flow. This creates spaces for new perspectives, alliances and networks of solidarity.
