==== Project description ====
A key step in RISO printing is the preparation of black and white image files such that printing each in its own color and overlaying them produces a colorful print result. The process of preparing the individual image files can be called “image color separation”. During the d*sign week 2023, I learned that the availability of software for color separation could not be taken for granted. The proprietary Adobe Photoshop, or the open-source ImageMagick and Krita, can separate images into CMYK color channels. The proprietary but free-of-use Spectrolite can separate images into arbitrary color palettes, but it only runs on Mac computers. In my talk, I will present my prototype for image color separation, as well as a few results obtained with it. The software is implemented in the open-source Julia programming language and could potentially be made available to the public as an open-source project.

Page against the Machine was the title my master thesis, in which I modified some books inside the video game Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (Warhorse Studios, 2025) to depict the text of the written part of the thesis. The work was ultimately presented in an installative setting, showcasing the result within the game’s modding tools.

The setup for d*sign week consists of two elements. First, the history, conceptual, practical concerns and the future of the project will be presented. We will discuss the potentials, pitfalls and ends of modifying software, as well as ask whether this kind of publishing can make a difference at all.

After the presentation, attendees are free to try out the intallation/showcase on the author’s computer.

The project is dedicated to exploring haptic technologies, with a particular focus on haptic gloves, wearable devices that transform digital signals into tactile sensations. Thanks to microactuators that generate vibrations, pressure and slight temperature variations, the gloves allow users to “touch” virtual objects, making the digital experience more immersive, accessible and multisensory.
Participants will experience first-hand interaction with virtual objects, perceiving their weight, shape and texture; they will recognise textures and materials through tactile patterns; they will try guided exercises designed for learning, rehabilitation or sensory exploration. The experience will offer the opportunity to understand how touch can become a new language for accessing digital content.
The workshop aims to raise awareness of the potential of haptics, promote the inclusion of people with different sensory or motor skills, and show how tactile feedback can improve orientation, perception and engagement. The ultimate goal is to build a more human and accessible relationship with immersive technologies.

==== Project Description ====
inter*printer refers to the in-between state that connects analog and digital publishing processes, as well as the the connection and interpersonal networking between individuals and collectives.

During d*sign week, the inter*printer is a collaborative process involving collecting, documenting, visualizing, curating, translating, publishing, reflecting, analyzing, learning, discussing, experimenting.

Taking place throughout the d*sign week, inter*printer functions as a collective action of experiencing the programme, actively involving the participants of the festival in documenting what happens in each event. Everyone is invited to contribute creatively with notes, scribbles, photos and texts that can be placed in shared folders and physical boxes. Special tools and concepts for documentation will also be made available to visitors of the d*sign week.

The collection is then processed in a daily editorial routine lead by Collectors Collective, a group of students of the Department of Visual Communication from the University of Arts Linz. At the studio of Potato Publishing the Collectors Collective edits and publishes the notes, drawings, photos and texts from the day before in the form of prints and publications. These visualize discussions, workshops and ideas, and explore new connections across the festival programme. After each session the content will be digitalized and feed back to the d*signwiki as a digital archive.

Visitors of the dsign week are warmly invited to share their impressions and notes and make them available to the editorial process.

For this Plotter Station workshop, OSP invites you on a griddy and tortuous adventure of making collective pen-plotted poster using their DIY tool named Cobbled Paths.
Cobbled Paths is a web interface that brings multiple tools together to allow experimental and direct collaboration on pen-plotted drawings through the making of Ascii art on etherpads.

At d*signweek, we will use Cobbled Paths to make point-of-view drawings from a still life that will be joined together into a collective pen-plotted poster.

The first step is in Ascii art fashion, to draw shapes and lines using Ascii characters such as ( ) / \ | ' - . _ = + on etherpads. An SVG vector interpretation of the shapes and lines is rendered in a side view, that can later be translated to HPGL to draw them with a pen plotter using normal pens.

It makes a way from the blocky discontinuity of Ascii drawings, to the smoothness of bezier curves, to an analogic pen-plotter interpretation.

Like cobbled paths, none of these technologies are new, and we've been walking on them for years. Like cobbled paths, it is a reminder of the permeability between the discrete and the continuous; how regular stones can form tortuous paths.

How can we contextualise the concept known as “autism” through a social approach while fostering ways to prevent injustice against marginalised groups? Why is an intersectional approach vital when it comes to justice issues? How can we – collectively and individually – work on our internalised bias and, consequently, aim to prevent integrating such bias into our work as designers, artists, and people?

These are the main questions that we try to discuss as a group. We will exchange ideas and critically reflect on how we think about, engage with, and create worlds with and for autistic folk. The combination of “with” and “for” will be a focal point. Change that includes more justice for marginalised groups requires us to listen, to reflect, and to engage in collective endeavours. Change is not lip-service, change requires conscious action. This event can be seen as a starting point to foster ways that aim to do just that.

This talk will be interpreted into Austrian Sign Language.***

Instead of producing separate works, everyone will print on a paper roll, creating a collective banner. The result will be a visual record of experimentation, collaboration, and joyful confusion of authorship. In this workshop, we rediscover how design, even in its most mechanical form, can be collective, messy, and radically open.

====Project Description====
How can we produce publications collectively? And how does this not only transform our modes of production, but also our understandings of how we can world our worlds? How can we practice publishing from the middle of communities of practice, always in flux?

For a couple of years we've been running CC (Creative Crowds), a shared server to learn and explore how experimental design tools can be shared with a network of trusted peers, which has grown into a place for us to extend our curiousities in experimenting with collective publishing workflows. At the centre is a question about "who" our tools and practices are tangled with and how we navigate these relations.

During the Design Week, we will host <del>two</del>one workshop<del>s</del> to dive into these questions together. During the<del>se</del> workshop<del>s</del>, we will start with a hands-on exploration of <del>two</del>some collective publishing tools we have been working on, and with: octomode (on Friday) <del>and wiki-to-print (on Saturday)</del>. These tools are part of collaborative workflows that use web-to-print techniques to make zines, funding applications and reports, portfolios, slides, academic journals, bulletins, newspapers, etcetera. We'd like to introduce our practices, these two tools and how they are situated in collective work and a network of networks of practitioners across (but not limited to) Rotterdam, Brussels and Amsterdam.
